Map of Location

Mamsheet (a.k.a. Memphis) is a Nabatean city situated on the road between Petra (in modern Jordan) and Be’er Sheva, Hebron, and Jerusalem (the road passes through Ma’ale Akrabim). The city was most affluent in the later days of the Roman Empire, when the Nabateans figured out that breeding Arabian horses was very profitable. The city contains some very unique architecture, including houses that are larger than normal, two Byzantine-era churches with beautiful mosaics, and other interesting features.
