Edouard Rene de Laboulaye (1811-1883)
He concieved this monument showing the love of liberty shared by France and America. This statue would be a gift from a people to a people. It was intended for the 1876 centennial, but was delayed until 1886. De Laboulaye never saw his dream realized.
